Youngster spotted performing high-risk scooter tricks near Tanjong Pagar MRT station: 'I'm a trained professional'

An youngster was seen performing risky scooter stunts near Tanjong Pagar MRT station, drawing mixed reactions from netizens, according to a post shared on Sgfollowsall Instagram page on Tuesday (Aug 25).

The video has since garnered over 2,800 likes and more than 250 comments as of Wednesday evening.

In the video, he can be seen riding a kick-scooter as he takes a two-metre-high hop off the roof of a structure beneath a multi-storey car park.

He lands hard, but bends his knees to cushion the fall.

A separate clip also shows the youth scooting down the metal divider between escalators outside Tanjong Pagar MRT station before riding his scooter towards the station.

AsiaOne understands that the escalator is not considered MRT premises under SMRT, which operates Tanjong Pagar MRT station.

Other clips show him leaping off stairs, riding on roads, grinding on roadside pavements and zipping down various structures.

Some users felt that the stunts he performed were too dangerous and posed a risk to others that might be around, with one commenting: "A danger to pedestrians using pedestrain facilities."

Other users were also concerned whether he had damaged public property with his stunts.

In response, he commented on the Instagram post: "I'm a trained professional, I know what I'm doing.

"Nothing was damaged and no one was hurt; you guys should make use of your time better."

Some users supported him and the tricks he performed, praising his skill.

"It's good to see kids playing like this… Let the kids come together to play instead of always (being) on their phones," said one.

Another user took the opportunity to share their perspective on parenting and childhood.

"This is what childhood should be about: going outside, making mistakes, getting a few bumps and bruises, learning from them, and growing from the experience.

"Kids who are allowed to explore, take risks and figure things out for themselves can build resilience, confidence, and independence as they grow."

Addressing the youth, the user also told him to "keep it up" and ignore haters.

"Stop raising kids like they're made of glass," the user said. "Toughen up a little."
