A fire broke out in the kitchen of an 11th floor flat at a HDB block in Yishun on Tuesday (Oct 20) night.

The incident happened at about 9.25pm at Block 472B Yishun Street 42.

Videos of the fire shared with AsiaOne show thick black smoke billowing out from the unit's windows.

Some residents are also seen outside the affected unit with a fire hose reel.

Firefighters and police officers outside the affected unit with the homeowner and residents who stepped in to help put out the fire.

In response to AsiaOne's queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force confirmed that a fire incident involving the contents of the unit's kitchen took place.

It said that the fire was put out by members of the public using a hose reel before firefighters arrived at the scene.

A total of four persons were also assessed for minor injuries, but they declined to be taken to the hospital, SCDF added.

Fire investigations are ongoing.

Firefighting appliances, including a Combined Platform Ladder, typically used for aerial firefighting, were deployed to respond to the fire incident.

The latest fire incident comes just two days after another fire happened at Block 438 Yishun Avenue 11.

In that instance, a personal mobility aid caught fire at the staircase landing, resulting in the evacuation of over 50 people.

Last year, unattended cooking was among the top causes of residential fires.

Homeowners and residents are advised not to leave cooking unattended, and to keep stove-tops, cooker hoods and ovens clean and free of grease.

They should also avoid overloading power sockets or charging devices overnight without supervision.

Lighted materials such as incense sticks or cigarettes should never be left unattended and must be fully extinguished before disposal.
