The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said in an update at 12.37pm that the traffic accident has been cleared and that all BKE lanes are back in operation.
The Land Transport Authority's traffic cameras show that the congestion along BKE is easing gradually. There is also some traffic along Woodlands Crossing.
Travellers and motorists who are planning to depart Singapore via Woodlands Checkpoint should expect delays, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said on Wednesday (Sept 9) morning.
In a social media post at 10am, the authority said this is due to a traffic accident near Exit 10A of the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) towards Woodlands Checkpoint.
According to ICA, the accident resulted in one of the carriageway's three lanes being blocked.
"Travellers planning to depart Singapore via Woodlands Checkpoint should expect delays," it said.
Checks on the Land Transport Authority's traffic cameras at 12.15pm show bumper-to-bumper traffic along BKE.
There is also a slight queue at Woodlands Crossing, while traffic along the Causeway remains smooth.
In response to AsiaOne’s queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force said two persons were taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
AsiaOne has reached out to the police for more information on the accident.
On Aug 31, ICA had said that heavy traffic is expected at both Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints during the September school holidays from Sept 4 to Sept 14.
In its advisory then, the authority highlighted that security checks have been stepped up at all checkpoints since Feb 28 — when US and Israel struck Iran — due to the heightened global security environment.
"Travellers should therefore expect longer waiting time during peak travel periods," it said.
