A Singaporean man was seriously injured after falling from a viaduct in Thailand on Monday (Oct 26).

According to Thai traffic radio station FM91, the 30-year-old exited a taxi that was travelling along an expressway in Bangkok.

The taxi driver told the radio station that he had picked up the Singaporean passenger from Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The cabby was instructed to keep driving, without any destination specified.

When they reached the Si Rat Expressway, the man appeared to be "agitated" as he repeatedly demanded for the taxi driver to stop.

After the cabby pulled over, the passenger opened the taxi's door and ran onto the expressway.

The driver said that he attempted to follow the man and convince him to return to the taxi, but the man ignored his pleas.

When he lost sight of the man, the cabby reported the incident to FM91's emergency assistance service at around 12.43pm.

Traffic police, alerted by the radio station, later found a man who had fallen off the viaduct into a public park below and sustained serious injuries.

The man had climbed over a barrier before falling from the expressway, Thai media reported.

He was identified as a Singaporean and was taken to a nearby hospital by emergency responders.

Local police are investigating the incident and working with the Singapore Embassy in Thailand for the next steps.

AsiaOne has reached out to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Singapore Embassy in Thailand for more information.
