There could be some reprieve from both the heat and haze in the second half of October, according to the weatherman's fortnightly update on Friday (Oct 16).

The Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said, with southwest monsoon conditions prevailing over Singapore, localised short-duration thundery showers are expected over parts of the island in the afternoon on most days.

However, the total rainfall for the second fortnight of October is expected to remain below average over most parts of the island, while daily maximum temperatures are forecast to range between 33 and 35 deg C.

Temperatures could also slightly exceed 35 deg C on a few days, MSS said.

Meanwhile, warm and humid conditions could still be expected on some nights, with minimum temperatures remaining above 27 deg C.

Dry, fair weather in first half of October

Singapore experienced largely dry and fair weather on most days in the first two weeks of October, with localised short-duration thundery showers over parts of the island on some days.

During this period, daily maximum temperatures exceeded 34 deg C on most days, while nights were warm with minimum temperatures staying above 27 deg C across several parts of the island, MSS said.

The highest maximum temperature of 34.9 deg C was recorded at Pulau Ubin on Oct 6.

Singapore also recorded well below average rainfall over this period, with the highest daily total rainfall of 60.4mm recorded at Nanyang Avenue on Oct 1.

On that day, regional wind convergence brought heavy thundery showers across many areas of Singapore during the afternoon.
