Heavy rain is expected over several areas of Singapore on Thursday (Oct 1) afternoon.

In a heavy rain alert issued at 1.56pm, the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said moderate to heavy thundery showers accompanied by gusty winds are expected over the northern, western and central areas of Singapore.

These weather conditions are expected between 2.20pm and 3.10pm.

Checks on the MSS's weather radar at 2.15pm showed rainclouds to the west of Singapore.

Singapore's national water agency, PUB has issued alerts on the risk of flash floods at the following areas:

  • Junction of Pesawat Drive and Jurong Port Road (till 3.13pm)
  • Jalan Boon Lay, from International Road to Enterprise Road (till 3.14pm)

In its daily haze situation update on Wednesday, the National Environment Agency (NEA) had said that showers are forecast over Singapore and the surrounding region today.

However, the risk of smoke haze affecting Singapore remains due to the prevailing south-easterly to southerly winds.

At 2pm, the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index was in the moderate range across all five regions.

Meanwhile, one-hour PM2.5 readings were in the normal band.
