Thinking of participating in outdoor activities on Thursday (Oct 29) but unsure of the haze situation? Here's some good news.

According to the National Environment Agency (NEA), showers are expected over Sumatra, Singapore and the surrounding region on Thursday.

This should help to keep the regional haze situation suppressed, NEA said in its daily haze situation update on Wednesday evening.

And while drier conditions may return over parts of Kalimantan, smoke haze from the area is unlikely to drift towards Singapore due to favourable winds, NEA added.

The 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) forecast for Thursday is between 60 and 90 — in the moderate band.

Showers are forecast over Singapore on Thursday (Oct 28). This, along with favourable winds, means that smoke haze from Kalimantan is unlikely to drift towards Singapore.

Turning to Friday and Saturday, the agency noted that winds are forecast to blow from the south-east to south-west.

However, showers expected over the region could help with the haze situation, NEA said.

Meanwhile, showers over many areas of Singapore on Wednesday helped keep the haze at bay, with hourly PM2.5 readings in the normal band (0 - 55 µg/m3) at 8pm.

PSI ranged from 67 in the southern region to 77 in central and western Singapore — in the moderate band.

Members of the public are advised to check the latest hourly concentration readings before participating in outdoor activities.
