SIA flights between Singapore and Shanghai cancelled, retimed due to Typhoon Dolphin

National carrier Singapore Airlines (SIA) on Saturday (Aug 8) announced the cancellation and retiming of its flights operating to and from Shanghai, due to weather conditions caused by Typhoon Dolphin.

At least eight flights scheduled over the National Day long weekend have been cancelled:

• SQ828, SQ830, SQ832 and SQ836 departing Singapore for Shanghai on Aug 9.
• SQ831, SQ833, SQ835 departing Shanghai for Singapore on Aug 9.
• SQ825 departing Shanghai for Singapore on Aug 10.

In addition, at least 10 flights over the same period will be retimed:

• SQ826, SQ828, SQ830, SQ832 and SQ836 departing Singapore for Shanghai on Aug 10.
• SQ827, SQ831, SQ833, SQ835 departing Shanghai for Singapore on Aug 10.
• SQ825 departing Shanghai for Singapore on Aug 11.

SIA will be contacting all affected customers to inform them about the changes to the flight schedules.

The airline also advised customers to visit its flight status page for the latest information as the situation remains fluid and other flights may be affected. 

Those who are affected by the flight changes may request to be accommodated on alternative flights or seek a full refund of the unused portion of their ticket.

Shanghai's two airports have cancelled more than 1,300 flights and authorities have relocated some 300,000 people in surrounding regions as China prepares for Typhoon Dolphin.

The storm's maximum sustained winds were estimated at about 162 kilometres per hour (101 mph) as of Sunday morning. 

It is bringing heavy rains, creating a risk of severe flooding as well as landslides and is expected to hit Zhejiang province and northern parts of neighbouring Fujian province late Sunday.
