The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) on Oct 15 presented its Community First Responder Award to two SBS Transit staff members for their actions during two separate fire incidents.

In a social media post on Monday (Oct 19), public transport operator SBS Transit identified the duo as bus captain Zhang Zhipeng and assistant station manager Mohamed Bin Osman.

"Zhipeng helped extinguish a car fire along Holland Road on Aug 8, while Mohamed responded swiftly to a fire at Little India MRT station on Sept 10. Both stepped forward without hesitation, helping to keep members of the public and commuters safe," the public transport operator wrote.

AsiaOne had earlier reported on the Aug 8 incident, in which the service 123 bus captain was seen calmly using a fire extinguisher on a black Lamborghini that had begun emitting smoke.

Most modern Lamborghini models feature a rear mid-engine layout, meaning the engine is positioned behind the passenger compartment.

Meanwhile, Mohamed was identified as the SBS Transit staff member seen discharging a fire extinguisher at a burning backpack at Little India MRT station on Sept 10.

SCDF told AsiaOne in a statement then that the fire was caused by a power bank, adding that the fire was put out by a SBS Transit staff member before its firefighters arrived at the scene.

In both cases, there were no major injuries reported, and no one was taken to the hospital.

Commending the pair, SBS Transit said their actions reflect the company's CARES culture, where caring for other goes beyond daily duties.

"Whether on the road, on board a train or at our stations and interchanges, our colleagues are always ready to lend a helping hand," it added.
