Man, 57, dies following water rescue at Rochor Canal

A 57-year-old man died after he was retrieved unconscious from Rochor Canal on Sunday evening (Aug 23).
In response to AsiaOne's queries, the police said they had received a call for assistance at Rochor Canal at about 7.25pm.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was also alerted to a water rescue incident near Wayang Satu Flyover at about 7.45pm, an SCDF spokesperson said.
Upon SCDF's arrival, rescuers found an unconscious person floating in the canal.
They used a ladder to access the canal and brought him out before conveying him to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
The 57-year-old subsequently died at the hospital.
A netizen who was driving along Stevens Road at the time shared a video of the incident on Xiaohongshu, showing a blue tent set up on one of the lanes and police officers directing traffic at the scene.
Based on preliminary investigations, the police do not suspect foul play. Investigations are ongoing.
