A 27-year-old man was arrested on Monday (Aug 31) for his alleged involvement in several cases of loanshark harassment, including in Woodlands.

Police said in a news release on Tuesday that they were alerted to a case at a residential unit along Woodlands Crescent at about 1.45pm on Monday.

A photograph of the alleged crime scene provided by the police shows the main gate of the victim's unit secured with a bicycle lock.

Officers from Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the man through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras.

He was arrested within four hours of the report being lodged, with preliminary investigations indicating his possible involvement in other similar cases of loanshark harassment.

The police did not say where these other cases happened.

The man will be charged in court on Wednesday for loanshark harassment.

Those found guilty of the said offence could be fined up to $50,000, jailed for up to five years, and receive up to six strokes of the cane.

Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not work with, or assist them in any way.

They may contact the police at 999 if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities.
