Fire breaks out at warehouse in Jurong, about 50 people evacuated

Some 50 people were evacuated after a fire broke out at a warehouse in Jurong at about 12pm on Tuesday (Sept 8).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in two Facebook posts that the fire, confined to the warehouse measuring about 20 metres by 10 metres, involved used household items stored inside.

It added that five water jets and a firefighting machine have been deployed to tackle the blaze.

Thick black smoke could be seen about 700m away on the Ayer Rajah Expressway.

At least three fire engines, one combined platform ladder (CPL) and a light fire attack vehicle are present at the scene.

Firefighters were conducting aerial firefighting using a CPL to prevent further spread of the fire.

A man from the warehouse told AsiaOne that he and fellow workers were inside when the fire started outside the premises.

He added that by the time they got to a fire extinguisher, the fire had spread uncontrollably.

As at 4.06pm, SCDF said the fire has been largely extinguished, with some deep-seated pockets of fire remaining.

It added that dampening down of the affected area is expected to continue throughout the day.

There were no reported injuries in the incident.
