Mosque employee to be charged over allegedly taking money from donation boxes


PUBLISHED ONAugust 11, 2026 9:36 AMBYSean LerA 42-year-old male mosque employee will be charged in court on Wednesday (Aug 12) for allegedly misappropriating money entrusted to him, thereby committing an act constituting criminal breach of trust.
Police said in a news release on Tuesday that they received a report on the man's alleged misappropriation of monies on May 16.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had misappropriated over $14,000 entrusted to him in the course of his employment between February and May this year.
If found guilty of the offence of criminal breach of trust by an employee, the man could be jailed for up to 15 years and fined.
The police said that they take a serious view of any person who engages in fraudulent or dishonest conduct, adding that offenders will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.
