A 56-year-old man will be charged in court on Monday (Oct 26) with offences relating to cheating, money laundering and unauthorised access to computer material.

Police said in a news release on Sunday that they received a report from a company, alleging that its former employee had committed fraud.

The report, lodged on July 16 last year, claims that more than $2 million was cheated over a period of about six years.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had abused his position as a logistics manager to register a sole proprietorship under his wife's name without her knowledge.

He purportedly submitted 128 fictitious invoices for logistics services that were never rendered.

The investigations also found that the man had used the criminal proceeds for personal investments and expenditure.

He now faces one charge of unauthorised access to computer material, six charges for cheating, and another six charges for money laundering.

The police warned that they take a serious view of commercial fraud and financial crimes.

"Those who abuse their positions of trust to commit fraud and launder criminal proceeds will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law," they added.
