Man, 34, hospitalised after self-inflicted stab wounds in Clementi

A 34-year-old man was taken to hospital after allegedly stabbing himself on Monday (Aug 10) afternoon.

A durian seller from a shop at Clementi Avenue 3 told Lianhe Zaobao that he was cutting the fruits when the man allegedly grabbed a large knife and ran off with it, turning it onto himself.

An eyewitness told the Chinese publication that man was shouting and stabbing himself in the head and other parts of his body.

Another eyewitness said that a man had rushed forward without hesitation to subdue the former, applying pressure to his wounds.

"The two of them were locked in a stalemate for more than 20 minutes until the police and paramedics arrived," he said.

A post on Xiaohongshu shows the aftermath of the incident with police tape in the vicinity, and what appears to be bloodstains visible on the ground.

Police officers can also be seen at the scene.

Another post on the Facebook group SG News Warehouse Sale & Events shows the cleanup operation after the incident, with the street being washed.

In response to queries by AsiaOne, the police said that they had received a call for assistance at Block 441B Clementi Avenue 3 at around 12.20pm.

Upon arrival, police officers found a 34-year-old man lying conscious "with injuries which were believed to be self-inflicted", and was taken to hospital.

Another 56-year-old man was also taken conscious to hospital as a precautionary measure despite not sustaining injuries, as he had grabbed the former's knife and disarmed him prior to the police arriving.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force added that one of them was taken to National University Hospital and the other to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.
