PUBLISHED ONSeptember 01, 2026 8:00 AMBYSean LerPrime Minister Lawrence Wong will make a one-day visit to Thailand on Wednesday (Sept 2) for the Singapore-Thailand Leaders' Retreat.
The trip, to be hosted by Thailand Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, also marks their first Leaders' Retreat, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said in a statement on Tuesday.
During their meeting, the two leaders will review the longstanding defence and economic cooperation between their countries.
They will also explore new opportunities for collaboration in the green and digital economies, energy resilience, food security, and combatting transnational crime, PMO said.
Both leaders will also exchange views on international and regional developments.
During the visit, the two leaders are also expected to witness the exchange of a cooperation agreement on social sector development.
PM Wong will be accompanied by his spouse, Loo Tze Lui, Coordinating Minister for Public Services and Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations Grace Fu, Minister for Social and Family Development Masagos Zulkifli, and Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo.
At a joint press conference during the Thai prime minister's visit to Singapore in November last year, PM Wong said the two countries have forged a relationship built on "trust, respect and deep friendship".
"Our ties today are deep and resilient, and our bilateral relations are excellent," PM Wong said then, adding that "there remains tremendous potential for us (Singapore and Thailand) to do even more together".
In his remarks then, Thai PM Anutin noted that Singapore has been Thailand's top foreign investor for the past two years and welcomes further investments in high-tech industries such as biotech, data centres and semiconductors.
They agreed during their bilateral meeting that day to strengthen cooperation in existing areas such as defence and security, while stepping up collaboration in new areas such as carbon emissions reduction, green investments and energy security.
Bilateral trade between Singapore and Thailand reached $52.4 billion last year.
