A 57-year-old man allegedly assaulted his 17-year-old twin children after suspecting his daughter of using a drug-laced vaporiser.

The accused, who cannot be named due to a gag order, faced eight charges including voluntarily causing hurt, affray, offences under the Protection from Harassment Act as well as breaches of the Women's Charter, Shin Min Daily News reported.

On Wednesday (Aug 19), he pleaded guilty to four of the charges, with the remaining charges to be taken into consideration during sentencing.

According to court documents, the man continued to live together with his ex-wife and their children after their divorce.

The incident occurred on Jan 13 night.

The man, who had noticed his daughter holding an item resembling a Kpod at home, woke the sleeping teen by kicking at her legs.

He then snatched the item from her hands.

They got into an argument, with the man accusing his daughter of mixing with bad company and going astray. This led the girl to leave home.

He followed his daughter to the lift and allegedly pushed her forcefully, causing her to fall backwards.

The man then grabbed her by the neck, which made it difficult for her to breathe.

After she broke free from his hold, he punched her in the forearm, the Chinese daily reported.

Son criticised father's parenting

After his daughter left home, the man returned to his room and reportedly drank two glasses of whisky before continuing to shout and swear.

His son confronted him and asked him to be quiet.

But this sparked another argument which enraged the man after his son accused him of being "not a good father".

The man then punched and kicked his son in the face. As the teen retaliated, the fight moved from their living room to the lift lobby.

The accused also choked his son, causing him to lose consciousness and fall along the corridor.

The altercation was eventually stopped by the children's mother.

His son was taken to hospital by the police, where he was found suffering from a sprained neck as well as bruises on his face and right ankle.

The man's daughter also developed bruises on her left leg and swelling at the back of her head, Shin Min reported.

The man was arrested that night. His ex-wife and two children applied for an personal protection order on the next day.

During the mitigation plea, the accused's lawyer said his actions stemmed from concern for his daughter's well-being over drug use, and fear that she would follow in his footsteps.

The man was also angered by his son's provocative remarks but he did not intend to harm his children, Shin Min reported.

The case has been adjourned to Oct 14 for sentencing.
