Heavy rain is expected over the northern, eastern, and central areas of Singapore on Friday (Sept 11) afternoon.

In a weather update issued at 2.08pm, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said moderate to heavy thundery showers are expected over these areas between 2.20pm and 3.15pm.

This was later extended to 3.45pm, and again to 4.15pm.

At about 3pm, Singapore’s national water agency, PUB advised members of the public to avoid the following areas due to the risk of flash flood:

  • Thomson Road between Balestier Road to Novena Rise (till 4pm)
  • Junction of Steven Road and Balmoral Road (till 4pm)
  • Bencoolen Street (till 4.15pm)
  • Cambridge Road and Carlisle Road (till 4.20pm)
  • Kampong Java Road between Newton Circus to the Central Expressway (till 4.22pm)
  • Derbyshire Road (till 4.25pm)

Checks on the Meteorological Service Singapore's weather radar at 2.50pm show rain clouds over the western and eastern regions of Singapore.

In its fortnightly weather forecast on Sept 1, the weatherman had said that localised short-duration thundery showers are expected over parts of the island in the late morning and afternoon on some days amid dry weather conditions.
