'Tears to my eyes': Elderly pianist and young musician draw crowds with touching MRT station duet

Passers-by at Tanjong Pagar MRT station were treated to an unexpected musical performance after an elderly man and a younger pianist teamed up for an impromptu duet on the station's public piano.
In an Instagram post shared on Sunday (July 5), the pair can be seen performing a lively tune with impressive chemistry.
As the duet unfolded, a small crowd gathered around the piano, with many commuters stopping to watch and record the performance.
According to the post's caption, the elderly pianist is a 70-year-old man.
The heartwarming performance quickly caught the attention of social media users, many of whom praised the duo's musical talent and stage presence.
Several commenters also suggested that the pair deserved a larger audience and should perform on a proper stage.
"Uncle definitely (sounds) musically trained and probably an established musician. We just don't know his background and his playing brings tears to my eyes," said one user.
Another commented: "The guy is really good. I watched him playing piano at Tanjong Pagar MRT before (and) I didn't want to leave."
First introduced in 2023, the public pianos at selected MRT stations are part of SMRT's Music in the Community programme, an initiative aimed at enhancing the vibrancy of station spaces and enriching commuters' travel experience.
