17 motorists to face drink driving charges; 2 caught with alcohol levels more than twice the legal limit

A total of 17 motorists will be charged in court on Thursday (Oct 22) for drink driving offences.
Police said in a news release on Wednesday (Oct 21) that the motorists, aged between 24 and 59, were arrested between September and October 2026 after failing breathalyser tests conducted during enforcement checks.
Two of the motorists recorded breath alcohol readings that were more than twice the prescribed legal limit.
Both cases involved men in their 30s who had consumed beer before getting behind the wheel. One was a 38-year-old man who admitted to drinking three to four cups of beer while the other was a 30-year-old man who had consumed two bottles of beer.
The 30-year-old was stopped for checks while sending a friend home and subsequently failed a breathalyser test.
Driving while under the influence of alcohol in Singapore carries a fine ranging from S$2,000 to S$10,000, a jail term of up to 12 months, or both.
For a second or subsequent conviction, offenders face a fine ranging from S$5,000 to S$20,000 and a mandatory jail term of up to 2 years.
Offenders may also face disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles.
Police reminded members of the public not to drive if they intend to consume alcohol, and to opt for other forms of transport home instead, if they do.
"All motorists are reminded to abide by traffic laws to keep the roads safe for everyone," the police said.
