There was no reprieve for motorists and commercial diesel vehicle owners here as pump prices continued to rise a second consecutive day on Good Friday (April 3).

In the wake of three fuel companies — Caltex, Shell and SPC — raising their respective diesel and petrol prices on Thursday, China-headquartered oil and chemical company Sinopec and American multinational oil and gas corporation Esso mirrored their moves on Friday.

Sinopec raised petrol prices by 5 cents across its petrol offerings, while raising its posted price for diesel by 30 cents.

Meanwhile, Esso upped its prices for 92-, 95-, and 98-octane petrol by 5 cents, 4 cents and 6 cents respectively.

But that's not all. Caltex also doubled-down on its diesel hike — raising its posted price by a further 20 cents, barely a day after posting a 10-cent increase.

This means that Caltex has raised its diesel price by 30 cents a litre in just two calendar days.

Petrol prices in Singapore fell between March 22 and 24, with fuel companies here taking turns to drop prices by 5 cents; except for Shell which adjusted its posted prices for petrol downwards by a total of 7 cents — over two adjustments.

95-octane petrol returns to high of $3.47

Following the latest round of pump prices adjustments, the popular 95-octane petrol now costs $3.47 at Caltex and Sinopec - a high last recorded on March 24

Meanwhile, Esso, Shell and SPC have priced their 95-octane petrol at $3.46 per litre.

Diesel prices

Caltex's two-in-a-row increase to its diesel price, and Esso's hike on Friday bring them on par with Shell at $4.43 per litre.

The middle ground is currently taken by Sinopec at $4.23 per litre.

The lowest-priced diesel, for now, is posted at $4.12 per litre at SPC.

Amidst the impact of rising energy costs and uncertainties on households and businesses, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on Thursday said the Government will move to "cushion the immediate impact".

The Government is also expected to provide targeted support for sectors that are more severely affected.

The measures will be announced when Parliament sits again on April 7.
