Woman in Malaysia loses over $630 after termites eat through cash

A lady in Malaysia has shared her woes online after she found out that termites had eaten through RM2,000 (S$632) in cash, according to a post last Tuesday (Aug 25).

Threads user Zofli Eiyta, who also goes by the username Anak_orangsebelah, received over 300,000 views in just three days, The New Straits Times reported.

In photographs uploaded with the post, a large pile of RM20 notes can be seen strewn across the floor, with some notes mostly eaten up by termites, while others are missing corners and left with blackened spots.

A separate photograph shared by the lady shows the interior of cupboard, used to prop up a sewing machine, which is heavily infested with termites.

At a loss, Zofli sought help from netizens.

"The money saved under the cupboard is being eaten by termites," she wrote.

"I don't know whether to be angry or laugh, this is so funny."

Attempting to help Zofli, a netizen advised her to take what she could to the bank and let them know that she wants to exchange the damaged notes.

"They will consider it, if it's just a little they will pay immediately," the user wrote.

Other users also chimed in, offering similar advice.

Another user found the situation humorous, quipping: "Termite food is really expensive nowadays!"

Some users sympathised with Zofli, sharing their own termite-related sob stories.

One user said that the money she got during Hari Raya celebrations was eaten through by termites, leaving her devastated.

Another uploaded an image of multiple RM50 notes in tatters, revealing that their father had experienced something similar.

Admitted the user: "My dad lost RM10,000, eaten by termites."
