Although an axe is visible near the student's bag in a video, the police denied that it was used in the incident.
In footage circulating online, the teen is seen looking at himself in a bathroom mirror with a phone strapped to his head before running towards a classroom and opening the door.
He is then heard shouting, "This is what you get", before charging towards a teacher.
The teacher reportedly sustained cuts to her hand and was taken to hospital.
Sarawak acting police commissioner Saifullizan Ishak said police received a call for assistance at about 8.05am, after the Kuching district police headquarters control centre was alerted to a student allegedly carrying firecrackers and injuring a teacher, according to Malay Mail.
The student was later subdued before being taken to the principal's office. Police subsequently arrived at the school, and the student's parents were contacted.
There were no other reported injuries.
As a precaution, the school temporarily closed its premises and asked parents to collect their children early.
The case is under investigation.
