The two young children of murdered Malaysian border control officer Norhazwani Ibrahim were told that had she died of illness.

According to the New Straits Times, her eldest sister, 48-year-old Marliza said: "I could not bring myself to tell them the actual incident, as they are too young to understand."

"When they asked why, I simply told them she was sick," she added.

Norhazwani, 35, a Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency officer, was allegedly killed at her Kuala Lumpur International Airport staff quarters in Nilai, Negri Sembilan, on Thursday (Oct 15).

Negri Sembilan police chief Alzafny Ahmad said that police had received a report at 8.30pm that a "female civil servant had been murdered" and sent a team to investigate.

"Based on preliminary investigations, the victim was murdered by her husband," The New Straits Times quoted him as saying.

"The suspect surrendered at a police station after the incident."

Marliza told Sinar Harian: "Even this morning, the eldest (daughter) asked to do a video call with her mother, but I said she was working."

She also said that both siblings were close to their mother.

Norhazwani's brother Amran, 59, told the Malay daily that she was having marital troubles and undergoing divorce proceedings at the time of the alleged murder.

Her husband was also only released a few days before from prison following a drug sentence.

Their other brother Hazwan, 38, revealed that the suspect had allegedly called him on the evening of the murder, asking him to "be a witness for them to divorce".

"About 10 minutes later, I called him again, but he told me that my sister was gone."
