The baby girl tested positive for amphetamine and benzodiazepines following a urine test at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital in Kelantan on Aug 6, reported Malaysia news outlet Harian Metro.
Police investigations reportedly found that she had been exposed to the substances while still in her mother's womb.
The baby's 30-year-old mother was reportedly arrested on Tuesday (Aug 11) to assist in police investigations. She subsequently tested positive for benzodiazepines in a urine screening conducted after her arrest.
"The unemployed woman has no previous criminal record," a source told Malaysia media outlet New Straits Times.
The case is being investigated by the Kota Bharu District Narcotics Crime Investigation Division for alleged child abuse, neglect, or abandonment, alongside Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, reported local media.
