The man's seven-year-old son was allegedly pushed from behind by the woman, causing him to fall, while his two-year-old daughter was allegedly hit on the back of her head, according to Bernama.
According to viral clips posted on Threads, the family had been strolling through the mall when the argument allegedly began.
The video uploaded by Threads user theteaatarikk has garnered more than 46,000 likes and reposted over 3,300 times in less than 24 hours as at Monday afternoon.
In the first video, the man is seen confronting a woman dressed in a yellow top and black skirt.
As mall security guards stand around them trying to defuse the situation, the two engage in a heated shouting match.
The physical altercation escalates seconds later when the man steps forward and shoves her.
The woman responds by striking him twice on the chest and face, before he retaliates with a hard slap to her face, sending her stumbling backwards onto the floor.
A second clip captures police officers restraining the man as he continues to yell angrily in the woman's direction.
Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ahmad Azwan Amin Nordin said the children's father lodged a police report on the same day, Bernama reported.
The police chief added that investigations are ongoing to determine the actual circumstances surrounding the altercation, adding that public should not speculate or jump to conclusions that could affect the investigation, The Star reported.
Meanwhile, separate eyewitness accounts and posts circulating on social media alleged that the woman in yellow had slapped another woman in the face and walked away just moments before the altercation with the family occurred, Malaysian news portal BuzzKini reported.
