A Malaysian grandmother found herself playing midwife in the back of a moving car when her daughter went into labour on the way to a hospital on Saturday (Sept 5).

The emergency delivery was captured on video and posted on TikTok on Sunday by Siraj Yasman, the daughter's husband.

Nuraisyah Fauzi, 28, gave birth to a baby boy at about 1.55am on Saturday while travelling in a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) to KPJ Perdana Specialist Hospital in Kota Baru, Kelantan, The Star reported.

The clip has since gone viral, garnering more than 4.4 million views as at Wednesday morning.

Using TikTok to deliver grandson

The video captured the moment Nuraisyah’s mother, Rosminie Che Yusoff, stepped in to deliver the baby as the family travelled near Kampung Pendek.

Despite having no experience as a midwife, Rosminie later told the family she had previously watched videos on TikTok about childbirth techniques.

"From those videos, she tried to help my wife deliver our baby during the emergency," Siraj told news outlet Kosmo!

The family was travelling from their home in Rantau Panjang after boarding their brother-in-law’s MPV.

Siraj, a Quran teacher at an Islamic religious school, said his wife first experienced contractions at around 11pm but they only began their journey to the hospital at about 1.40am from his mother-in-law’s house.

He recalled that his wife then informed him that her clothes were wet and that their baby's head had already crowned 15 minutes into the journey.

"My mother-in-law, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, immediately turned around and acted as the midwife to deliver our sixth child," he added.

The incident was filmed by Nuraisyah's sister, Siti Hajar Tajuddin, 27, who was sitting in the back seat.

Siraj, who admitted to panicking during the ordeal, said he could only recite prayers as his mother-in-law helped deliver the baby.

His brother-in-law then drove them to the hospital with Siraj holding his newborn son, and they were greeted by hospital staff who were already on standby.

Nuraisyah and her newborn son, who has yet to be named, were reportedly in good health when they arrived at the hospital, according to Kosmo!
