'Power leh!' Bus driver earns plaudits for scolding cars hogging bus lane at JB customs

A bus driver earned applause and praise from his passengers after he got out of his vehicle to scold drivers hogging the bus lane at Johor Bahru customs.

The act was recorded and uploaded to Instagram in a now-viral video by user Jonathan Kang on Thursday (Aug 20).

The video has since garnered over 9,000 likes and more than 326,000 views as of Saturday afternoon.

In the video, the bus driver can be seen braving the rain, angrily approaching a group of cars that have stopped in the bus lane as they attempt to jump in the queue at customs.

Still wearing his hot pink neck pillow, the driver walks up to one of the cars, rapping his knuckles on their driver-side window.

He can be seen berating the drivers, possibly urging them to drive on.

"This is a bus lane, but look at these cars, they're blocking [traffic]," Kang, a passenger on the bus, said in a mix of Mandarin and English.

"But look at our driver - he immediately got off the bus and began chasing them away!"

Another passenger quipped: "He's being a traffic policeman."

As the bus driver re-enters the vehicle, he's met with applause from his passengers.

"Wah, power leh!" Kang shouts in praise.

The video then cuts to Kang's bus ahead of the queue as they look back and see an officer approaching one of the vehicles that is in the bus lane.

"It's over for him," Kang commented in Mandarin.

The video ends as the officer can be seen issuing instructions to the driver before stepping away.

Errant motorists caught attempting to jump the queue will be turned away and made to re-queue, according to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority.

During the Vesak Day long weekend between May and June this year, 30 motorists were caught for various traffic offences at Woodlands Checkpoint.

Out of the 30 errant motorists stopped by authority figures, 21 vehicles were immediately directed to turn around, make a U-turn, and re-queue at the back of the line.
