A Malaysian motorsports influencer was among 11 men arrested after a group allegedly stopped traffic on the Second Link Expressway in Johor Bahru to stage an illegal motorcycle race.
The incident took place at around 7am on Sunday (August 23) along the highway between Km33 near the Senai Utara toll exit and Km31 near the Johor Premium Outlet (JPO) interchange, reported the New Straits Times (NST) on Thursday.
"They are suspected to be involved in the illegal racing which was captured in a viral video," Kulai police chief Assistant Commissioner Tan Seng Lee said in a statement, reported the NST.
The video showed two motorcyclists racing illegally with several men allegedly stopping traffic to allow the race to proceed.
The 33-second footage also showed the group setting off firecrackers to celebrate the end of the race, while several others, including the influencer, were seen on the road shoulder afterwards.
The incident drew attention after the video went viral on social media.
Eight men were rounded up on Sunday, while three were arrested on Tuesday linked to the incident.
Johor police chief Datuk Ab. Rahaman Arsad said the eight were arrested by detectives from the Kulai Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at 11.54am on August 23.
Datuk Rahaman said the group was believed to have blocked the road from Km33 at the Senai Utara Toll interchange to Km31 at the JPO interchange to stage the illegal race, according to The Sun.They are being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police believed a RM15,000 bet (S$4,700) was placed on the illegal motorcycle race.
