The popular Japanese clothing retailer is set to raise prices in its home country soon, it announced in a notice published on its website on Friday (Oct 16).
It stated that 11 products will see price increases from Nov 10.
Among them, the Kando Jacket, which will increase from 6,990 yen (S$56.50) to 7,990 yen; the Kando Pants from 3,990 yen to 4,990 yen; and the Colourful 50 Socks from 290 yen to 390 yen per pair.
Apart from individual items, the retailer will also discontinue its discounted multi-pair sock deals from Nov 10.
These include its four-pair deal for coloured socks and three-pair deal for other socks, both previously priced at 990 yen per bundle.
This means customers will have to purchase the socks individually at the revised price of 390 yen per pair.
The average selling prices of its products in Japan will be increasing by about four per cent, citing rising raw material and logistics costs, as well as the weakening yen as reasons for the hike.
The changes follow an earlier round of price adjustments for Uniqlo Japan in September, which affected not only selected apparel, but also delivery charges and alteration services.
But what about the outlets in Singapore?
Fortunately for local shoppers, the upcoming price adjustments will not affect Singapore, and is only limited to the Japanese market, the retailer told The Straits Times.
Meanwhile, the announcement has also drawn mixed reactions from netizens.
In a Reddit thread discussing the price changes on Tuesday, one user said: "I would honestly rather them raise prices on core goods than compromise on quality."
Others, however, appeared less pleased with the increase, comparing the practice with other establishments.
"While Ikea lowers prices to help consumers with rising costs of living," commented another.
