Another yoga studio is set to close in Singapore, with The Yoga House announcing that its Dempsey outlet will cease operations after Dec 13.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday (Oct 28), the studio reflected on its time there, where it operated for more than three years.

"It has been more than three years of practice, tea, and a community that made the space what it was. We are deeply grateful," it wrote.

The studio explained that the closure comes as its lease at Dempsey reaches its end this year.

However, the announcement did not come as a complete surprise.

In an earlier Instagram post on Aug 30, The Yoga House informed members of the impending closure.

The studio revealed that the Singapore Land Authority had informed them that its lease at Dempsey will not be renewed, and that the premises need to be returned by the end of December.

"This wasn't a decision we made, and it isn't easy news to share," The Yoga House wrote at the time.

"Dempsey has been home to so much of this studio's story, and we know many of you have your own memories of that room, so we're holding this news with the same care we hope you will."

It isn't a complete goodbye for The Yoga House, as it will continue operating at its Bukit Pasoh branch.

According to the studio, classes at Dempsey will continue as usual until its closure, with plans to expand the number of classes at the remaining outlet in the following months.

Existing memberships and packages will also remain fully valid at Dempsey until Dec 13, after which members can continue using them at Bukit Pasoh.

The studio also assured members that there will be no immediate changes to its teaching team.

"Our teachers are the heart of our studio, so however this next chapter takes shape, we want them to continue being a part of our shared journey."

While details of the transition have yet to be finalised, The Yoga House said it welcomed feedback from members on what they would like to see moving forward.

Timelines and updated schedules will be shared once confirmed, it added.

In the meantime, the studio encouraged members to continue supporting it through the changes.

"The simplest way is the truest one: Keep practicing with us. Your presence has always been what this studio is built on, and that doesn't change with an address."

News of the closure quickly garnered the attention of fellow yogis, who took to the comments section to show their support.

"I'm so sorry to hear. You created such a beautiful, safe space, and I just wish I had visited it more! Looking forward to going back before it closes, and best of luck with this new chapter!" read a comment.

Another said: "I'm so sorry to read this! I had so many special moments in your studio while living in Singapore... I'm sure you will carry your magic and energy wherever you go."

To commemorate its remaining time at the space, The Yoga House has introduced a special Celebrate Dempsey pass, offering eight classes for $235.

Valid for six months, the pass can continue to be used at Bukit Pasoh after the Dempsey outlet closes. The promotion is available until Nov 1.

Wave of yoga studio closures in Singapore

The Yoga House's announcement comes amid a recent series of yoga studio closures in Singapore.

Earlier this month, Hom Yoga said it would be closing for good on March 21, 2027, following the planned redevelopment of Valley Point Shopping Centre, where its final outlet is located.

Yoga Inc also abruptly ceased operations when it shuttered its two remaining outlets at SAFRA Punggol and Our Tampines Hub last month on Sept 18 — leaving over 30 instructors and a number of customers in limbo with owed wages and recently-purchased packages.

These came shortly after True Fitness and True Yoga announced the closure of all their Singapore outlets in September after being placed under provisional liquidation.

Yoga+ is also closing its last remaining studio at Killiney Road on Oct 30, after nearly a decade in Singapore's yoga scene.
