Yet another popular Japanese chain is making its way to Singapore, and this time, it's the beef bowl lovers that are in for a treat.

Known for its signature gyumeshi (beef rice bowls), Matsuya is set to open its first Singapore outlet this November.

Its debut at Suntec City will complete the 'big 3' of Japan's gyudon chains in Singapore, joining Yoshinoya and Sukiya, both of which already operate multiple outlets here.

While Matsuya's full Singapore menu is yet to be revealed, diners can expect dishes similar to those served at its Japanese outlets, with key ingredients imported from Japan to maintain taste and quality.

The star of its menu is the gyumeshi featuring tender slices of beef and onions simmered in a savoury-sweet sauce.

Other offerings include specialty beef bowls with various toppings, Japanese-style curries and hearty grilled meat set meals.

Singapore-exclusive and seasonal menu items will be introduced in time, a spokesperson told The Straits Time.

And while Matsuya operates 24-hours a day in Japan, its Singapore outlet will only open from 9am to 10pm for now.

Founded in 1966, Matsuya has been a household name in Japan for nearly six decades and currently operates over 1,200 outlets in its home country, as well as several overseas branches in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Vietnam.

The brand's Singapore debut coincides with its 60th anniversary this year.

According to Matsuya, its arrival in Singapore "marks a significant milestone" for the brand's expansion internationally, "bringing a familiar taste of Japan to local diners for the first time".

The brand's opening comes amid a wave of Japanese food brands expanding into Singapore, including popular doughnut chain I'm Donut?, which is set to open at Ion Orchard in December.

Other recent arrivals include grilled fish specialist Shinpachi Shokudo at Nex in August and yakitori chain Torikizoku at VivoCity in May, among others.
