Miranda Lambert used 'misery' of her divorce to write 2016 album

Miranda Lambert used the "misery" of her divorce to write The Weight of These Wings.
The 42-year-old country music star was married to singer Blake Shelton between 2011 and 2015, and she's now explained how the heartbreak of their split inspired The Weight of These Wings, her 2016 album.
During an appearance on Ross Golan's And the Writer Is… podcast, Miranda explained: "I got divorced and that sucks for anyone, especially in the public eye, especially on tour, especially in the middle of a very public career, two of us, you know what I mean? It just was a really not fun time.
"I, in the meantime, had moved back to Nashville full-time, and so I dove headfirst into songwriting."
Miranda leaned into her own "misery" to write her album.
The singer — who has been married to Brendan McLoughlin since 2019 — said: "When I moved back [to Nashville] in 2015, I gathered up all of my friends and relationships from, you know, all of the previous years and just used it, used the misery.
"I used the staying-out-too-late at honky-tonks. I used what I was living and my friends went on that journey with me, friends being songwriters, and I think I wrote 75 songs in, like, a year. I mean in the first four months I moved back."
In 2024, meanwhile, Miranda praised Brendan for being so "honest" with her.
The Heart Like Mine hitmaker observed that many celebrities surround themselves with so-called yes people - but Miranda stressed that Brendan is honest with her.
Speaking to Us Weekly, she explained: "He calls me out and I love that. I need that.
"I don't think it's healthy that people, especially artists or celebrities, surround themself with yes people."
Miranda believes Brendan's honest approach will ultimately prove to be beneficial for her in the long run.
She said: "If you surround yourself with a group of people who are honest with you, you'll go a lot farther, and it's a lot healthier in the long run."
