A man who resembles Hong Kong singer-actor Jordan Chan sent Chinese social media into a frenzy on Oct 14, fueling speculations that they are related by blood.

In a Douyin post on Oct 13, a netizen posted a video with the caption: "The more I look at this man at the factory I work in, the more he reminds me of the celebrity Jordan Chan. What do you think?"

The video shows a man wearing a red safety helmet and a white T-shirt with his back to the camera as he operates a machine in front of him.

When he turns around to continue his task, his face becomes visible and his features did bear some resemblance to Jordan, 59.

The video created a buzz on Chinese social media as netizens recalled Jordan had revealed in a previous interview that he has a younger brother who was sold to another family as a child due to poverty.

Some netizens also reportedly found out the man's surname is Chen — same as Jordan's surname in Mandarin — and assumed he is in his 50s based on his looks, which further fuel speculations that they are biologically related.

They also reportedly commented in Jordan and his actress wife Cherrie Ying's social media posts to alert them of the man.

According to media reports, Jordan revealed in Chinese talk show Jing Ju Li in 2008 that he was born in Guangdong, China, and lived in extreme poverty as a child. Even after moving to Hong Kong later, his family often struggled to find enough to eat and his parents could not support their four children.

When Jordan was a few years old and collected garbage to supplement his family's income, he saw a notice posted by a wealthy family offering to adopt a healthy boy with a compensation of HK$3,000 (S$490) and naively told his parents about it.

While he was punished by his parents at first for the suggestion, they ultimately gave up their youngest son due to financial desperation.

Jordan was burden with guilt for years after and had asked his father before if he should use all his available resources to find his sibling. However, his father dissuaded him from doing so, believing it would disrupt the lives of his younger brother and his adoptive parents.

As the matter continued to gain attention, Chen appeared in a Douyin livestream through the original netizen's account on Oct 15.

He clarified he is 47 years old, not adopted, his hometown is in Fujian, and does not have a birthmark as rumoured. He has older siblings and denies being related to Jordan.
