Charmaine Hui pays touching tribute to late dad Benz Hui, says she almost bought him a gift while on a trip, before reality hit hard

Oct 28 marked a year since Hong Kong actor Benz Hui died.

On his first death anniversary, his daughter Charmaine shared an emotional tribute to him on Instagram.

"A few days ago I told mum that from birth until now, I have never gone this long without seeing you," wrote the 29-year-old.

She said her mum, Angeli Lung, still feels as if he'd gone for filming.

"I joked: 'Just what sort of drama is so big and pays such a high fee that it's worth you being away from us for so long?'" said Charmaine.

She added that she's trying to get on with life, recounting a recent work trip to South Korea.

She signed with Hong Kong artist management company Chessman HK as a professional host earlier this year.

"I saw an outfit that suited you and felt the urge to buy it as a gift for you. Unfortunately, reality is so cruel. In the blink of an eye, I sobered up and realised it's been so long since I last saw you," she recalled.

"I am still lost about the future but I will remember all the things you taught along the way and keep moving forward."

Charmaine ended the post with a line in English: "Love you endlessly".

Benz, who was a Singaporean PR, died in October last year at the age of 76 from multiple organ failure due to cancer.

Charmaine married her Singaporean husband, who is based in Hong Kong, in 2023. She sold her two cafes in Singapore and moved back with him after they married.
