Man arrested after allegedly injuring 2 in knife attack at Hong Kong housing estate

A man has been arrested after allegedly injuring a domestic helper and a security guard in a knife attack at a private Hong Kong housing estate on Monday (Aug 10). 

Videos of the incident shared on Threads by user hungkwonghikaru that day show a shirtless man in long black pants holding what appears to be a small knife in his right hand. 

Two security personnel in yellow vests are seen standing in front of the man while several passers-by are seen nearby.

The attacker approaches one of the security guards, who attempts to grab the man's hand holding the knife before tripping and falling.  

In a second video, the attacker is seen running towards one of the security guards again, while the other guard holds a traffic cone, attempting to use it as a shield. 

A man in dark-coloured clothes appears on the scene to help de-escalate the situation.

Another video posted by Threads user anfernee1215 on the platform that day shows the attacker allegedly chasing after a woman dressed in a white top and blue bottoms. 

She falls as he continues stabbing her with the knife, while the two security guards and the man in dark-coloured clothes try to shield her from the attacks. 

The police received multiple reports about the incident at around 9.20am regarding a man in his twenties attacking residents at Baguio Villa, a private housing estate.

The domestic helper suffered wounds to her neck and back, while the security guard sustained an elbow injury, reported Hong Kong publication The Standard. 

Eyewitnesses claimed that the man is a resident of the estate and is suspected to be suffering from mental health issues, reported Hong Kong news outlet hk01. 

Preliminary investigations revealed that he is a foreigner, and was subsequently arrested and taken into custody. 

The police later searched his flat and found an injured cat, with a cut on the right side of its head. It was taken away for treatment, reported The Standard. 

Investigations are ongoing.
