Hong Kong woman finds live newborn rat in takeaway, eatery told to improve hygiene

A woman in Hong Kong was shocked after finding a live baby rat in her takeaway satay beef rice noodles on Monday (Sept 7).
A video circulating online shows it moving, covered in sauce.
The video has since gone viral, with netizens expressing disgust and raising concerns over food hygiene.
The woman, who reportedly works at a property agency, discovered "the additional ingredient" after returning to her office and opening the container.
According to The Hong Kong News, she reportedly lodged a complaint with the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department.
The restaurant's owner, Mike, described the incident as "terrifying" and "exaggerated", and said he hoped to contact the customer to find out more about what happened.
Speaking to Sing Tao News, he said the restaurant had been operating for more than a year and had never encountered a similar incident.
He said the restaurant is located in an industrial area where rats are occasionally spotted, adding that the premises undergo deep cleaning and disinfection every month.
He added that the restaurant would increase the frequency of its pest control measures following the incident.
The Sun reported that health officials found the restaurant's hygiene conditions to be unsatisfactory, and ordered it to make immediate improvements.
It reportedly underwent deep cleaning the following day.
The incident has sparked discussion among netizens, with some joking that the meal came with a "free rat sashimi", while others said they would no longer order satay beef noodles from there.
