Traffic enforcer shot dead after refusing to release impounded motorcycle in Philippines

A traffic enforcer was shot dead by a 34-year-old man in the Philippines after allegedly refusing to release his impounded motorcycle on Saturday (Aug 8). 

The incident occurred at around 5.48pm that day along Congressional Road, Barangay Burol 1, Dasmariñas City, the PNP Dasmariñas Component City Police Station (CCPS) said in a statement on Tuesday. 

CCTV footage of the incident circulating online shows a man in dark-coloured clothing approaching a group of traffic enforcers. 

The man appears to walk away before turning back and pulling out what appears to be a gun, before allegedly shooting the victim. The victim falls to the ground, while the suspect immediately flees the scene.

The victim was taken to Pagamutan ng Dasmariñas hospital, where he later died at around 7.30pm, said CCPS. 

Investigations found that the deceased and his colleagues had earlier flagged down the suspect, identified only as Cesar, for a traffic violation, according to local media reports.

The officers had allegedly spotted Cesar and his female passenger riding without helmets.

As his motorcycle registration was later found to have expired and he did not have a valid license, the traffic enforcers impounded the vehicle, reported Manila Bulletin. 

Cesar reportedly returned several hours later and demanded the release of his vehicle. When the victim refused, Cesar allegedly shot him in the head before fleeing the scene. 

Cesar was arrested on Monday following a manhunt operation and currently faces multiple charges, including murder, reported Manila Bulletin. 

Police also allegedly recovered the firearm used in the shooting and 2.4g of shabu (slang for crystal methamphetamine) from his possession.
