An upcoming Thai golfing star has died at the age of 15 a day after being struck by lightning.

Aeyavarin Pradubyart, also known as Aeya, was playing a tournament on Sunday (Nov 1) when the fatal strike occurred, according to Thairath.

The junior golfer was found without a heartbeat, while a 31-year-old female caddie also sustained injuries, reported Bangkok Post.

Aeyavarin's mother, Natcha Pradubyart, confirmed her daughter's death in a Facebook post on Nov 2.

"You were the bravest, my dearest Aeya," the grieving woman wrote.

According to Natcha, Aeyavarin's heart had stopped for nearly an hour. The teenager underwent repeated resuscitation overnight in hospital until her father flew home for a final farewell.

"No parent can easily let go of their child, but if holding on causes pain to our beloved, we will let go so you can find peace," the post said.

In another post, Natcha called for all golf courses and tournament organisers to implement preparedness measures to prevent future accidents.

Aeyavarin's competition had been allowed to continue even after thunder sounded twice, according to Thai PBS World.

The teen has won multiple golfing awards and represented her province, Chon Buri, at tournaments.
